  • intangible fancy

Are we/could we ever get order of the other nominees? Especially in the weighted categories?

    • GaryX

Weighted categories are going to be ordered.

      • intangible fancy

Okay, cool! Those are the ones I’d really be interested in seeing the ordering of anyways.

        • GaryX

Definitely. I figured ranking (which gives a truer, more interesting order than the one choice tend to) would’ve been too much for every category, but for the “big” Best of’s I thought it best to form a list and not simply a single winner.

  • Czar

Walking Dead not winning GOTY is a sham. A SHAM I TELL YOU!

    • GaryX

It’s just music (which should’ve been Hotline Miami but whatever). It’s still up for GOTY.

      • Czar

Oh, well, in that case, Mass Effect 3 deserved it.

        • http://www.gildedgreen.com/ Girard

          NOOOOOOOOO! HOTLINE MIAMI 4EVA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Cloks

You said “Ron Fucking Swanson” but included a picture of Duke Silver for some reason.

    • GaryX

When you see something that beautiful on google, you don’t ignore it.

    • alienlanes

I wish Ron Swanson could have won.

  • http://www.avclub.com/users/leavethesilvercity,114326/ leave_the_silver_city

Yay! Also def agree with @GaryX:disqus about Hotline Miami soundtrack. It was awesome. Though I find myself unable to get past a certain point in the game (a boss fight) so am stuck getting killed over and over again by a guy with a meat cleaver and biker heltmet.

    • HighlyFunctioningTimTebow

Same here, Perturbator’s Disco level track was top-notch, not to mention Horse Steppin’. I habitually listen to the date/time Prologue music with my morning cup of coffee daily.

    • http://www.gildedgreen.com/ Girard

Seeing Mass Effect up there kind of boils my blood. It feels like the 2004 presidential election, where not only am I incensed that a clearly superior choice has been cast aside, but I am dismayed and disillusioned to learn that the community to which I belong is capable of making such a tremendous error in judgment. I mean, goodness, Hotline Miami should have been a shoo-in!

      • Czar

Clint Mansell cares not for your opinion. The scores of those games were fucking outstanding.

        • http://www.gildedgreen.com/ Girard

Well, THAT was thoroughly generic and uninspiring. Time for me to go do backflips around the house to THESE SICK-ASS BEATS.

        • GaryX

Nah, fuck that. Mansell got half credit for that track and like one other song, so it’s less like he made a score than got a paycheck to fart out a few BWWAAAMPS while playing the piano. Just felt like an EA-style big name money grab.

          http://masseffect.wikia.com/wiki/Mass_Effect_3_Soundtracks

Might as well rep for the real composers.

      • GaryX

It may kill you then to know that number two in the race wasn’t even Hotline Miami. It was Assassin’s Creed 3.

It’s like if Bush and Cheney had somehow split the 2004 election.

        • http://www.gildedgreen.com/ Girard

What’s the equivalent to declaring my intention to move to Canada in this situation? “That’s it! I’m moving to The House Next Door!” “I’m placing my one-way ticket to Polygon right now!” “Let me see Mass Effect’s birth certificate!” OH…wait…that’s something else.

      • DrFlimFlam

Mass Effect 3 has a great score. It’s not subtle, but it is moving and powerful and all kinds of cool.

      • Fyodor Douchetoevsky

I am mad about how mad I am about this (not very, just slightly annoyed). Hotline Miami fucking OWNS. It easily has one of the best game soundtracks in years. Just goes to show you that AVC has scrub-tier taste in games. Or at least they don’t know about Hotline Miami, because that’s like the only reason someone would think ME3 or AssCreed 3 had a better soundtrack.

        Fuck all y’all.

        • http://www.facebook.com/renato.m.ferreira Renato Miranda

Would this score be interesting to non-gamers? All the people talking about it makes me wanna check it out.

          • GaryX

It depends on your tastes really. It’s a pretty solid mix of mostly electronic music. @Douchetoevsky:disqus posted a link to the SoundCloud above. I’d recommend checking out at least “Hydrogen” or “Miami.” I’m not sure what you might think of them out of context (I still think those two, at least, are quite good), but within the context of the game they’re incredible evocative and atmospheric in a way not dissimilar to the music of Drive.

          • http://www.facebook.com/renato.m.ferreira Renato Miranda

FUCK YEAH, DRIVE! LOVE EDM! YEAH BITCH, I’M LISTENING TO THIS MOTHERFUCKER NOW!

          • Fyodor Douchetoevsky

            Check it out here: https://soundcloud.com/devolverdigital/sets/hotline-miami-official

I actually listen to it in real life.

  • flowsthead

Every single category I voted in has someone else win. *sad face*

    • HighlyFunctioningTimTebow

      i kno that feel, bro
      *Sad Ewok PTSD face*

  • Grrr. Argh.

Although we voted on the damn thing, this is where we argue about a list, as is tradition.

    • alienlanes

      Lincoln? Really?

  • http://www.facebook.com/renato.m.ferreira Renato Miranda

I got controversial opinions and think Claire Danes should’ve won Best Actress! I SAID CONTROVERSIAL AV CLUB!

    • HobbesMkii

Peter Dinklage was robbed! (although it occurs to me that I did not actually vote for him.)

  • valondar

Wow. At least half this stuff is stuff I voted for. I didn’t think Veep would win in particular, but I’m glad it – and Moonrise Kingdom – did. Nice.

    • Scrawler

Veep was definitely the biggest surprise here for me. Although I voted for Luck, I’m not at all unhappy about this.

      • mratfink

That was a tough fucking category. I think i had luck then Korra then Veep. Putting B&K 4th pained me. Wasn’t really an undeserving show in the lot (except THIS IS MY Last Resort)

        • http://twitter.com/YeeYee187 Festivus Yee Yee

          CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES

        • Scrawler

Yes, in my nominations it was Luck, Korra, Veep and then B&K, exactly the same as you (big shock).

    • GaryX

I personally wanted The Master to win best score, but I’ll happily take Moonrise Kingdom.

      • Scrawler

        Both excellent choices.

    • Babs

I voted for Veep 1. because I thought it deserved it and 2. Because I thought no one else would. I’m super-glad my strategy panned out.

    • double_hawk

Veep won only because of the inexcusable snub of Gravity falls…

      • GaryX

        • double_hawk

          NEVER!!!!!!

    • Czar

Don’t blame me I voted for Korra

      • reckoner

Well, at least I wasn’t the only one who cast a vote for the Avatar. She can bend all four elements, ferfuckssake!

      • double_hawk

        same, it was just awesome!

      • reuelb5427

        I voted for it too.

  • SisterMaryFrancis

It’d be a lot easier to be enraged at all this stuff if I could remember what the hell I voted for. Damn you, memory! You have vexxed me once again!

    • GaryX

I was wanting to have a way where everyone could have a list at the end of what they voted for but couldn’t figure out an easy way to do it in time. Maybe next year.

      • SisterMaryFrancis

Is there a way to get some kind of digital reciept that shows what the person voted for? If not, I wouldn’t worry about it. It’d be too painstaking and annoying to filter through all the ballots individually just for people with bad short-term memory and easily swayed opinions.

  • Barnitosupreme

YEAH VEEP!!! GET SOME FUCKING NUTS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DrFlimFlam

I have once again voted for exactly one winner of the day, this time for the score of ME3, which is good enough that I listen to it outside of the game. So stirring.

  • http://twitter.com/YeeYee187 Festivus Yee Yee

I DID SOMETHING WHEN I READ ABOUT ANN HATHAWAY

  • http://twitter.com/YeeYee187 Festivus Yee Yee

so glad that Veep won over Girls, maybe cause I’m a MISOGYNIST though

  • mratfink

I was pretty damn surprised by best actress in a film but then looking over that list i have no idea who i voted for. Perhaps had i listened to my heart Hayward would’ve been my choice. But instead i think i listened to my head and voted Adams. Better than listening to my groin and voting Hathaway though!

  • http://www.facebook.com/renato.m.ferreira Renato Miranda

    DENIS LAVANT WAZ ROBBED!

  • alienlanes

I am sad that Warrior and Source Code were not even nominated.

    • http://www.facebook.com/renato.m.ferreira Renato Miranda

Yes, the Ke$ha snub really stings.

  • alienlanes

I make myself sad by posting on wrong pages.

  • reckoner

Happy to see Cranston and Poehler up there!
